 SATA-IO Interoperability Workshop #6

September 29 - October 3, 2008

Embassy Suites Milpitas - Milpitas, California

The sixth SATA-IO Interoperability Workshop will be held in Milpitas, California  The IW will be co-located and held in conjunction with the SATA-IO Plugfest #11.

Objective:

The objective of the SATA-IO Interop Workshop is to act as a mechanism for verifying adherence to the SATA specification in addition to interoperability among products in the marketplace. As SATA products are deployed into the market, it is critical that we, as industry suppliers, work together to ensure proper operation and interoperability. The Interop Workshops are one mechanism included in the overall SATA-IO Interoperability Program for verification of Serial ATA products. For more details on the SATA-IO Interoperability Program visit the Interoperability Program overview page.

Focus areas for testing at SATA-IO Interop Workshop #6 include:

The focus for this event will be the verification of new SATA products as they are introduced into the market. The program will include general interoperability tests and requirements as defined in the SATA specification and the SATA-IO Interoperability Program. Testing will focus on the verification of Phy electrical characteristics, mechanical and electrical characteristics of cables/connectors, digital protocol, and general interoperability. At this time, the testing supports the following component/product types: PC compatible hosts, hard disk drives and optical drives (ATAPI: Slim and Half-height). In addition, the testing is limited to verification of products designed to the "internal" usage model defined by the SATA specification (Gen 1i/2i). Additionally, eSATA host and drive informative or normative testing MAY be offered.

Registration Information

Registration for the Interop Workshop is limited to SATA-IO members only. Information on becoming a SATA-IO member can be found on the Membership page.

SATA-IO will be assessing a $750.00 registration fee for each product tested during the Interop Workshop.

Each Interop Workshop vendor is only allowed to register a single component for scheduling in a block of testing sessions.  Registration for a single component includes registration for two supporting engineers. Additional support engineers above two will incur a $100.00 fee per individual. Each test session is one to two hours and will be focused on testing of a single product. Because of the limited number of registered test slots, the initial registration process will only allow one product to be registered per vendor.  If at a later point, it is found that not all of the test slots are utilized there will be follow-up with the vendors already registered to understand if they have additional products ready for testing.

**Testing will be scheduled through noon on Friday, October 3, 2008. All vendors registered to attend the Interop Workshop should plan to test until noon on Friday.  Test schedules will be distributed by SATA-IO a few days prior to the event in order for attendees to make any necessary travel changes.
