Mladen Luksic is a member of SATA-IO Board of Directors since 2007. He represents Western Digital where he is the Director of Host Interface Technology. Mladen is also the Chairperson of the SATA-IO Digital Workgroup. After several years in academia, Mladen spent over twenty years in storage, software, and semiconductor industries both in senior technical and senior business development roles. He served on boards of directors and advisory boards of several startup companies, and was a consultant to a number of technology venture capital groups. Mladen holds a PhD degree in Mathematics, has published extensively in professional technical and marketing literature, and served as a representative to several professional and industry organizations.
Knut is an Intel Fellow and leads an R&D group responsible for developing new mainstream storage innovations for Intel platforms. His team develops the core technology behind Intel’s new high-performance solid-state drive (SSD), as well as contributes to the definition and evolution of several storage interfaces including ONFi (Open NAND Flash Interface), NVMHCI (Non-Volatile Memory Host Controller Interface), and Serial ATA. Knut joined Intel in 1993 as a hardware engineer in the Intel Architecture Labs where his primary focus was on improving the storage performance of Intel’s entry into the standard high-volume server segment. His focus transitioned to mainstream storage optimization techniques where his contributions included disk reorganization techniques for improved application launch performance. Knut then drove definition of the Serial ATA disk drive interface standard and its subsequent evolutions and enhancements, which continues today. His current primary focus is on solid state storage technologies including approaches to make efficient use of NAND flash in the platform and new technologies for high-performance NAND-based SSDs.
Richard Tomaszewski currently serves as secretary on the Board of Directors for the Serial ATA International Organization. Richard has a hard drive engineering background and leads the HP Advanced Technology group within HP’s Industry Standard Servers organization. His group is primarily focused on research and development of next generation storage technologies, interfaces, futures and strategies. Richard has 25 years of engineering experience in disk drive development and qualification at HP. He has made numerous contributions to and with the industry, benefiting notebook, desktop PCs, servers and external storage. Over the past several years, Richard has played a significant role in bringing Serial Attached SCSI and Small Form Factor server storage from concept to industry mainstream.
Frank Chu is a member of SATA-IO Board of Director and the chair person for SATA-IO Cable and Connector technical committee. Frank is also active in the JEDEC Standards activities and is currently the chair of JC42,4 JTG. Frank is a senior engineer at Hitachi GST’s San Jose Research Center. Frank’s responsibilities including storage interface standards, low power consumption, and storage architecture. Frank holds MSEE from Stanford University and MBA from Santa Clara University. Frank has been awarded 6 US Patents in the field of storage architecture and others.
Marc serves on the board of directors for SATA-IO, the global organization that defines Serial ATA, the world’s most popular data storage interface.. In addition to his position as Board treasurer, Mr. Noblitt’s responsibilities include developing strategic I/O direction with industry enablers of storage technology. As Senior Market Development Manager for Seagate Technology, Marc is responsible for defining the company’s strategy and interface roadmap for the client space including desktop, notebook, consumer electronics and nearline storage. He works with industry leaders to align I/O technology for storage consumers all around the world. Marc joined Seagate in 1983 as a test engineer and has since played many roles for the company, including test engineering manager, application engineering manager, and technical account manager for European customers. Many of Marc’s projects live on today, such as the compatibility lab he formed for one of Seagate’s acquired companies, Conner Peripherals, which today serves as Seagate’s compatibility lab. He has also worked for Conner Peripherals, Maxtor and Quantum. Marc earned an engineering degree and has over 25 years of experience in the storage industry, specializing in interface strategy and alignment and market development. His contributions to industry interface specifications will continue to impact the computer and storage industry for years to come. ![]() Tom Pratt, Board of Directors Tom Pratt is the current vice chair of the Serial ATA International Organization. He is a Senior Technical Staff member in the Office of the CTO at Dell, where he is responsible for technology strategy in the area of client storage. Tom has been in the storage industry for more than 25 years, and has been at Dell in a variety of technology and management positions since 1998. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Union College, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester, and an M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. Sam Barnett, Board of Directors Samuel Barnett is the Business Manager responsible for advanced storage and storage networking products in the Storage Business Unit at Maxim Integrated Products in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He serves on the Board of Directors for the SATA International Organization (SATA-IO). Prior to joining Maxim via the acquisition of Vitesse Semiconductor's Storage Division, Mr. Barnett spent five years at MCI, most recently as a Strategic Architect and Consulting Engineer in high-speed data transports. He holds an undergraduate degree in Business and a Masters degree in Computer Science.
